Targeted Service
CV review and re-formatting
The majority of doctors will only have one CV, tailored towards job applications in the medical or life sciences fields. Whilst these represent a useful summary of achievements to date, it is generally unsuitable for use within the corporate setting or for Business School applications. Our CV specialists will review your current format and made recommendations in order to help you convert this to a more business-friendly version. We stress that our service is a 're-formatting' service as opposed to a 're-writing' service as we feel it is important to represent an accurate portrayal of the candidate through their CV. A 'medical' CV is vastly different from that expected in the corporate environment, and this is why the vast majority of doctors submitting their standard CV will never even be called for interview.
If there are significant gaps in your profile based on your re-formatted CV we will advise you of these and work with you to create a strategy in order to minimize this impact prior to your Business School applications. For applicants with a suitable period of time available (6 months minimum) prior to the application deadlines, we may recommend particular 'CV broadening' roles or tasks to be completed in order to fill these gaps more effectively.
Reference Selection
There are often a number of possibilities available to the average doctor when it comes to choosing personal references for Business School applications. Whilst it is often tempting to choose from between a string of prestigious referees (Professors, Clinical Deans etc.) the majority of schools require a mix of personal, academic and work references. Given the nature of our role as clinicians, there is often a significant overlap between what constitutes a 'work' or 'academic' referee. It is also crucial to choose a personal referee who is able to offer personal information that complements work or academic references. This balance is often difficult to achieve without an 'outside perspective'. Our team offers you a group of fellow doctors that have been through this extremely difficult decision making process and proved successful in their own reference selection. We will review your references, advise on which is most appropriate for each category and offer feedback to help your referees enhance their write-up and include any specific points or content that may help your references stand out from the crowd.
Essay review and editing
One of the most important parts of the Business School application is the admission essays. These represent a challenge to most applicants as they require you to summarise an entire lifetime of academic and professional achievement in a short essay, often with a stringent word limit ranging from 150-500 words. Stanford Business School, for instance, is renowned for its 'What matters most to you, and why?' question which most potential MBA students find extremely difficult to answer.
Due to the 'Honor Code' of the majority of top tier MBA programs, students are not permitted to submit essays written by others, and those that do will often be caught out by the Admissions Committee as a result. There are very few guarantees to success in terms of successful admission to B-school, but the submission of plagiarised work is a guaranteed strategy for receiving the dreaded 'ding' letter. This is also entirely against the ethos of our service, as we wish to empower doctors through their own intrinsic merits.
Our essay editing service therefore aims to work with you to improve your essays in terms of format, grammar and style, but the content is very much the realm of the individual. Whilst we are happy to offer advice given a range of potential topics and answers to questions, our service will not write your essays for you!
Interview Practice and Ongoing Support
Once you are ready to submit your application or have already done so, we will continue to offer support via e-mail and telephone, guiding you through the interview process. This is by no means a 'formality' and for certain top schools the admission rate for interviewed candidates is as low as 30%. We will offer you personalised coaching and feedback with members of our team that have successfully navigated this step and offer specific advice with how you may best improve your answers to a range of typical and more diverse 'personal fit' questions.
On securing a place, we will remain by your side, advising on applications for prestigious scholarships such as the Fulbright Award and help advise you on selecting between school choices. We will then remain in contact with you both during and after your MBA experience.
